The Knut Hamsun Centre is located by the vicarage ruins on the banks of the Glimma River in Presteid in Hamarøy Municipality. The centre was designed by the internationally acclaimed architect Steven Holl. He received the Progressive Architecture Award in 1996 and the model was bought by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Exhibition: A challenging journey through the life and works of Hamsun – as a celebrated and condemned author opens in June 2010.
The Hamsun Days: The literature festival ”Hamsun Days”, the largest and highest profile Hamsun-related event in the country, takes place in August 2010. The centre also arranges seminars and debate evenings, concerts and exhibitions.
Open year-round: The centre is open year-round.
