Stella Maris
The sculpture "Stella Maris" is part of Artscape Nordland. The works by artist Steinar Christensen was completed in 1994 and is situated in Hamarøy Municipality.

“Steinar Christensen’s sculpture Stella Maris comprises a group of objects that lie in the tidal zone on the water’s edge – a sort of still life depicting the frailties of life.

The shapes are sharp and hard like consonants in language and have the vertical character of a word or statement. The vowels then become the base or ground of the sculpture’s unbalanced element.

The symbols Steinar Christensen has chosen, and the combination of them, testify to caring about the era and society in which we live. The composition of objects is like a comment. We gaze back to our civilisation from an imagined place in the future. We wonder whether the objects are on their way out to sea or whether the sea has carried them back to the place from where they once came into existence."
